Roberto Benítez Alonso is agraduate of the Instituto Superiorde Arte in Havana.
Early in his career, he impressedat the Amadeo Roldán NationalCompetition (2nd Prize – Cuba –1978). He later received an awardfor Best National EducationalWork (Havana – 1983) and was recognised at thefirst FirstNational Pedagogical Cycle (Cuba– 1988).
He is a member of the Cuartetode Saxofones de la Havana, withwhich he has given a number ofconcerts in France, and of theAnacrúsax saxophone quartet,with which he has so far recorded two albums.
He organised the first and second editions of the NationalSaxophone Meeting-Workshop inCuba in 1990 and 1992.
In 1993, he became a member ofthe National Union of Writers andArtists of Cuba (UNEAC).
He founded the Escuela de Músicadel Estado de Tlaxcala (Mexico),established in 1996.
He has been a member of themanagement committee of theAlianza Latinoamericana deSaxofonistas (ALASAX) since2013.
He has published educationalworks that have becomebenchmarks in the saxophoneworld: Saxofón, GuíaMetodológica, and EscalasCromáticas para el Estudio delSaxofón.
He was a jury member, soloist,and presenter at the FestivalClariSax in Medellín in 2016 and2018.
He regularly performs in concertand in recital in Mexico’s majorconcert venues.
